We only accept original comment pieces and ask that all submissions comply with the following guidelines:

  • Pieces should not exceed 750 words
  • Spell out names rather than using acronyms
  • Links to further reading are permissible provided they are not commercial in nature
  • Generic press releases are not accepted
  • Product promotion is not accepted
  • Comments about events, such as budgets, sporting occasions and international gatherings, need to be submitted during or very shortly after those events to be considered

Jeremy Balfour MSP

Jeremy Ross Balfour is a Scottish independent politician, Baptist minister and solicitor who represented the Lothian region as a Member of the Scottish Parliament from 2016 until 2026. Born on 11 March 1967, Balfour brought a distinctive combination of legal expertise and ministerial experience to his parliamentary work. He was initially elected to the Scottish Parliament as a Conservative member in 2016, serving under that party's banner for nearly a decade before resigning from the Conservatives in August 2025 over disagreements with Russell Findlay's leadership, after which he sat as an independent MSP for the remainder of his parliamentary term.

Throughout his decade in the Scottish Parliament, Balfour drew on his professional background as both a practising solicitor and Baptist minister to inform his approach to legislative matters. He now writes commentary for Comment Central.

Jim Allister MP

James Hugh Allister, known as Jim Allister MP, is a Northern Irish unionist politician and barrister who has represented North Antrim in the House of Commons since the 2024 general election. Born in April 1953, he founded and has led the Traditional Unionist Voice party since its establishment in 2007. Before entering Westminster, Allister served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for North Antrim from 2011, and prior to that represented Northern Ireland in the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009, initially as a Democratic Unionist Party member before his resignation and the formation of the TUV.

Allister's political career began with the DUP, which he joined at its foundation in 1971, and he succeeded Ian Paisley as an MEP following the 2004 European Parliament election. Known for his unionist principles and support for Brexit, he has remained a prominent voice in Northern Irish politics across multiple representative bodies over two decades. He writes commentary for Comment Central.

Jo Platt MP

Joanne Marie Platt is a British Labour and Co-operative politician who has represented Leigh and Atherton in Parliament since 2024. Born on 15 June 1973, she first entered the House of Commons in 2017 when she was elected as Member of Parliament for Leigh, a position she held until 2019. Following a period outside Parliament, Platt returned to Westminster in 2024 to serve the reconfigured constituency of Leigh and Atherton, resuming her parliamentary career and continuing her representation of communities in Greater Manchester.

Throughout her time in politics, Platt has focused on issues affecting her constituents in the Leigh area and has worked within the Labour and Co-operative movement to advance policy objectives aligned with her party's values.
