James Gray is a British Conservative politician who represented North Wiltshire as Member of Parliament for twenty-seven years, from 1997 until 2024. Born on 7 November 1954, Gray served as a long-standing Conservative backbencher throughout his parliamentary career, witnessing significant political change across nearly three decades in the House of Commons. His tenure spanned multiple Conservative governments and leadership changes, making him one of the more experienced MPs during his time in Parliament.
During his time representing the rural Wiltshire constituency, Gray focused on issues affecting his predominantly rural electorate whilst contributing to broader Conservative policy debates in Westminster. He holds the post-nominal letters CStJ, indicating membership in the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. Having concluded his parliamentary service in 2024, Gray now writes commentary for Comment Central, bringing his extensive Westminster experience to analysis of current political and policy developments.
