We only accept original comment pieces and ask that all submissions comply with the following guidelines:

  • Pieces should not exceed 750 words
  • Spell out names rather than using acronyms
  • Links to further reading are permissible provided they are not commercial in nature
  • Generic press releases are not accepted
  • Product promotion is not accepted
  • Comments about events, such as budgets, sporting occasions and international gatherings, need to be submitted during or very shortly after those events to be considered

Debbie Abrahams MP

Deborah Angela Elspeth Marie Abrahams was born on 15 September 1960 and has represented Oldham East and Saddleworth as a Labour Member of Parliament since 2011. Throughout her parliamentary career, she has established herself as a significant voice within the Labour Party on social policy matters.

Between 2015 and 2018, Abrahams served in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet, taking on key opposition roles during a formative period for the Labour Party. Her work in Parliament has focused particularly on welfare policy, social security reform, and health matters, where she has consistently advocated for vulnerable constituents and communities across her Greater Manchester constituency. Abrahams has built a reputation for detailed policy analysis and committed advocacy on issues affecting working families and those dependent on the social safety net. She now writes commentary for Comment Central, sharing her insights on British politics and public policy.

Derek Wyatt

Derek Murray Wyatt is a British politician who represented Sittingbourne and Sheppey as Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2010. Born on 4 December 1949, he served in the House of Commons for thirteen years during a period that saw significant political and social change in the United Kingdom.

Throughout his parliamentary career, Wyatt contributed to debates and policy discussions affecting his Kent constituency and the wider nation. His tenure in Westminster spanned the latter years of the New Labour government, during which he engaged with the legislative process and represented the interests of his constituents in Sittingbourne and Sheppey. Following his time in Parliament, he has continued to contribute to political discourse and now writes commentary for Comment Central.

Desmond Swayne MP

Sir Desmond Angus Swayne has represented New Forest West as a Conservative Member of Parliament since 1997. Before entering politics, he worked as a teacher and later as a manager at the Royal Bank of Scotland. Throughout his parliamentary career, Swayne has held several significant government positions, including serving as Parliamentary Private Secretary to David Cameron during his tenure as Leader of the Opposition from 2005 to 2010 and continuing in that role for two years after Cameron became Prime Minister. He was subsequently appointed Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury in September 2012 and Minister for International Development in July 2014. He received a knighthood in the 2016 Birthday Honours for his political and parliamentary services.

Swayne is known for his Eurosceptic views, having supported the Leave Means Leave pressure group, and has become a prominent critic of the British government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He writes commentary for Comment Central on political and policy matters.

Dominique Palmer

Dominique Palmer is a British climate justice activist, speaker and author who was born in 1999 and is of Jamaican, American and British heritage. A fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, she first became involved in climate activism through the Fridays for Future school strike movement. Palmer has since established herself as a prominent voice advocating for intersectional climate action and slow fashion, using platforms spanning music, media and policy to advance her message. She has spoken at major climate events where she encourages young people to approach environmental challenges with what she describes as urgency and hope. Her work particularly focuses on addressing eco-anxiety amongst young climate activists, and she champions a concept she calls climate joy as part of her broader advocacy. Palmer writes commentary for Comment Central.
