Anthony David Steen CBE is a former British Conservative Party politician and barrister who served as a Member of Parliament for 36 years between 1974 and 2010. Born in July 1939, he represented three constituencies during his parliamentary career, beginning with Liverpool Wavertree from February 1974 to 1983, followed by South Hams from 1983, and finally Totnes in Devon from 1997 until his retirement from the Commons. During his time in Parliament, he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Peter Brooke, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, from 1992 to 1994.
Following his parliamentary career, Steen became widely recognised as one of the United Kingdom's leading figures in combating human trafficking and modern slavery. He has served as Chairman of the Human Trafficking Foundation, and his significant contributions to this cause were recognised in 2015 when he was appointed a CBE. In February 2016, he and Baron Randall of Uxbridge were appointed special envoys on modern slavery to the Mayor of London. Anthony Steen writes commentary for Comment Central.
