Sir Kevin John Barron is a British Labour Party politician who represented Rother Valley as Member of Parliament from 1983 until 2019. Born on 26 October 1946, he began his working life in the coal industry before entering Parliament, bringing firsthand experience of the concerns facing mining communities during a transformative period in British industrial history. Throughout his lengthy parliamentary career spanning over three decades, Barron served his South Yorkshire constituency through significant economic and social changes, particularly those affecting former coalfield areas.

During his time in the House of Commons, Sir Kevin developed expertise in health policy and industrial relations, drawing on his background as a former coal industry worker to champion the interests of working-class communities. His knighthood recognises his extensive public service and contribution to British political life.
