Tim Knox is a distinguished British art historian and museum director who has held leadership positions at some of the United Kingdom's most prestigious cultural institutions. Born Timothy Aidan John Knox on 9 August 1962, he served as Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge from 2013 to 2018, where he oversaw one of Britain's leading university art museums. In March 2018, Knox was appointed Director of the Royal Collection, the private art collection of the British royal family held in trust by The King for his successors and the nation.
As Director of the Royal Collection, Knox manages an extraordinary collection comprising almost all aspects of the fine and decorative arts, containing more than a million objects housed across some fifteen present and former royal residences throughout the United Kingdom.
