Sir Christopher Chope OBE is a British politician and former barrister who has represented Christchurch in Dorset as Member of Parliament since 1997. Born on 19 May 1947, he first entered Parliament in 1983 as the Conservative MP for Southampton Itchen, a seat he held until losing it to Labour in 1992. After a five-year absence from the House of Commons, he returned to Westminster in 1997 upon his election for Christchurch and has continuously served the constituency ever since.
A member of the Conservative Party throughout his parliamentary career, Sir Christopher has maintained a presence in British politics spanning four decades. His extensive experience encompasses both his legal background as a barrister and his longstanding work as a constituency representative in southern England.
