About Sammy
Samuel Wilson, known as Sammy Wilson MP, is a British politician who has represented East Antrim in the House of Commons since 2005 and currently serves as Chief Whip of the Democratic Unionist Party, a position he has held since 2019. Before entering Westminster, he served in the Northern Ireland Assembly as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Belfast East between 1998 and 2003, then for East Antrim from 2003 to 2015. Wilson made history as the first DUP member to become Lord Mayor of Belfast, serving in that role from 1986 to 1987 and again from 2000 to 2001.
Throughout his extensive political career, Wilson has held senior ministerial positions in the Northern Ireland Executive, including Minister of Finance and Personnel and Minister of the Environment. His experience spans local government, devolved administration, and national politics, with particular expertise in financial policy and environmental matters.
