About Baroness
Baroness Anne McIntosh of Pickering is a British Conservative politician with extensive experience in both UK and European parliamentary politics. She began her political career as a Member of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1999 before entering the House of Commons as MP for Vale of York in 1997. She subsequently represented Thirsk and Malton from 2010 until 2015, although her local constituency association controversially declined to reselect her in January 2014, and she continued serving until the general election the following year.
Following her departure from the Commons, McIntosh was elevated to the House of Lords in the 2015 Dissolution Honours. She was created Baroness McIntosh of Pickering, of the Vale of York in the County of North Yorkshire, on 6 October 2015 and formally introduced to the Lords on 27 October that year. Since then, she has continued her political work from the upper chamber. Baroness McIntosh writes commentary for Comment Central.
