About John

John David Penrose is a British politician who represented Weston-super-Mare as the Conservative Member of Parliament from 2005 until 2024. During his parliamentary career, he held several ministerial positions, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport between 2010 and 2012, and Lord Commissioner of the Treasury from 2014 to 2016. He also served as Minister of State for Northern Ireland from 2018 to 2019.

Penrose became the United Kingdom Anti-Corruption Champion at the Home Office in 2017, a role in which he focused on tackling corruption and promoting transparency. He resigned from this position in June 2022 in response to the Boris Johnson Partygate scandal. Throughout his time in Parliament, Penrose developed expertise in areas including culture, media and sport policy, government integrity, and Northern Ireland affairs.
