Letter: Give members say or witness decimation by Brexit Party

Letter: Give members say or witness decimation by Brexit Party

Tory grassroots chief, Bob Perry, writes to Tory MPs stressing the total collapse in trust among the Tory membership and urging MPs not to prevent Brexit leadership candidates from making final two or risk dire consequences from Brexit Party threat.

Dear Members of Parliament,

Following the European Parliamentary elections, I urge you to consider the implications of some of the worst results in the history of the Conservative Party when selecting a successor to Theresa May.

As the Party of Government, we were mandated to deliver Brexit almost three years ago and as yet we have failed to come anywhere close.

Our Government has failed the 17.4 million British people who voted to leave the EU and if we continue down this path, this great party will be unelectable for generations to come.

There are rumours in Westminster that some Conservative MPs are plotting to prevent a pro-Brexit candidate, such as Boris Johnson, from becoming our next leader. Grassroots conservatives are already incensed by the lack of democracy which currently exists within the Party and will not tolerate, nor forgive a stitch up that ensures two pro-Remain candidates are chosen.

The Party membership must be given the opportunity to decide whether they want to support a candidate who is willing to leave the EU under WTO rules.

The public has sent the Conservative Party a very clear message: Britain must leave the EU on October 31st. Either the Party has a Leader who can deliver this or voters will look elsewhere – almost certainly to the thriving Brexit Party.

For the last three years the Conservative Government, aided by many willing Conservative backbenchers, has delayed, frustrated and watered down Britain’s exit from the EU. In the eyes of the Tory membership, Conservative parliamentarians are in the last chance saloon. I implore you to stop plotting to engineer the leadership result and concentrate on selecting a candidate who will deliver the democratic result of the referendum. This is the only way to restore trust in our damaged Party.
